Podcast: Have It Your Way

Bali, Indonesia 2001: What to do before leaving paradise on a jet plane? Catch some waves? Partake of the original foods? Get a final glimpse of the island’s beauty? No? Catching up on a journal for the ages! Hey, have it your way.

Trent Ling’s preached message, “Have It Your Way” becomes part of the audio library today.  Preached in the infancy of the ministry, it dealt head-on with the fact that the true ministry of Jesus would always be one of volunteers.  While many grow weary of caring what God thinks and what Jesus says, people are challenged to have it their way should they sour on the truth.  Just the sixth recorded message in ministry history, “Have It Your Way” provides timeless instruction and exhortation.

“I have a great affinity for the early recorded messages,” Trent shares. “With this one I could plainly see at the outset that when push came to shove, pockets of selfishness and factions of malcontents held little regard for what the Bible actually commanded and expected. Consistent with the Scriptures, I let everyone know that we can do whatever we want and give it all a whirl before the judgment seat of Christ.”

This message features the reading and preaching of the following Scriptures:

Isaiah 53:1

Isaiah 55:8-11

Matthew 12:30

Luke 15:11-20

Philippians 1:3-11

  1. Isaiah 55:9
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

The above verse should do it for us but amazingly it doesn’t for many. I had it ‘my way’ for 25 years and we saw how that went (for those who know me). What a disastrous quarter of a century that proved to be! As I read the bible uninterruptedly recently I noticed that even with a superficial and shallow understanding, it’s still clear, understandable and edifying in many instances. In other words, we don’t even need insight from Heaven to know wrong from right scripturally. With little effort, one can understand much within the scriptures just on the surface. May His will be done. Amen!

  2. I remember after this message preached, around the same time, I had to say “have it your way” to someone who was just trying to distort the truth and help from the ministry; and turned to be against people telling her the truth–not with anger, but with realization that the person, like everyone else and myself, would always have the freewill to do whatever they want. And I take comfort in the fact that we will all be taught by God (John 6:45).

  3. Oldie but Goldie – The will of Him who sent us is to visit the widows and take care of the orphans!
May we all be like minded and never squander what He has so bestowed on us.

  4. That is the cutest boy in the history!!! Absolutely!!!! And I’m with Siauw. I want him back once in a while. We just shared 17 days of new memories with that very sweet, gentle boy who has grown into a sweet, gentle young man. Love you Za!

  5. Oh my goodness! That boy in the picture is so cute 🙂 Can you believe it, he’ll be gone to college, away from Florida heat, in ten days!! Can we have him back to his childhood days for a while longer?….

  6. I cannot be against the Lord! The chords of my sins have held me. I have been wrong. My convictions have not been God’s. My ways have not been God’s ways. I have left a trail of destruction. I have squandered what God gave me. I have not shared – the one thing I love to do! I must live up to what I know. I have not been helping in love! I have not been able to discern what is best and my fruit has been null. Lord please grant me repentance that the chords of my sin are not holding me up, but rather your love holding me up – to do your will by loving others with the love you have given me – sharing the greatest gift ever known! I must go pray. Love you.
