Podcast: Who’s in Charge?

Orlando, FL 2001: It certainly looks like the kids are in charge. Gathering their customary first-day-of-school presents just goes to prove their case.

Trent Ling’s preached message, “Who’s in Charge?” has now come to the website’s public audio library.

Aimed toward straightening out some of the misconceptions at the ministry’s beginnings, the message goes to show how God’s view of leadership almost always contradicts man’s view.  And, in a ministry where leadership is regularly up for grabs, the message provides timeless guidance to any that would dare to take a stand and try to lead others in the faith.

“Leading the ministry has never been my goal, personally,” Trent concedes. “However, I have been willing to fill vacancies as needed.  I have been somewhat surprised through the years to find some who have wanted to lead.  Of course, they usually crash because their motives and hearts are not quite right.  So, this message should help all willing overseers to navigate some of those minefields that surround leadership and war against those who would undertake its calling, voluntarily or involuntarily.”

This message features the reading and preaching of the following Scriptures:

Matthew 21:23-27

Matthew 23:5-12

Hebrews 7:11-16

2 Timothy 2:1-2

  1. You lead not only by the word but by the example. May your examples be picked up maturely and may they live on in each of us.

  2. All it takes is willingness heart that cares for others… May more of us join you in the work, Om Trent!

  3. Thank you for posting this message. This brings back memories of those who’d say, they won’t listen to me because I’m just a baby disciple. Please, no more of that! Really, if you have love and humility that Jesus and the Bible have shown you… you wouldn’t have that feeling. That feeling also comes from wanting to be heard, wanting to be treated right (insecure) instead of just serve, say what you have to say humbly and don’t expect a pat in the back (like Trent has been shown us, in reality). This message should encourage all of you who are humble 🙂

  4. Thank you for this wonderful message. I am humbled greatly by the Hebrews 7 scripture and how a priest like Melchizedek appears not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. Power is the key ingredient. 1 Cor. 2:4-5 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.
What a perfect place for faith to rest!

  5. Amazing! This message goes perfectly with the “Closing In” post! No labels, positions, or endorsements are necessary in the Kingdom because we all part of the Body which Jesus is the only head. I will only strive for the power behind the indestructability, reliability, and humility Jesus displayed and taught. With God’s help, I will strive to be the least of my Brothers and Sisters in this backwards Kingdom, not to search for a “leadership position” but to be a functioning, fruitful body part He can use. Thank you Trent for teaching us the ground rules for the journey that we have ahead. Love you!
