In today’s Trent TV episode, a haggard and beleaguered Trent Ling joins the rest of the world near the finish line of America’s Election 2012. With so many matters clamoring for attention through the electoral process, disappointment abounds no matter what happens. Trent tries to provide some underpinnings and a somber sense of the grand scheme upon which elections fit.
“This topic–elections–features so many moving parts and hidden forces about which only a sustained conversation could ever get the ball rolling,” Trent confides. “Fascinating to me are the longings and yearnings of people. I am hopeful over those because I do know the answers to them. Ancillary to that, however, an unpacking of hearts, minds, motives, and other matters must also take place. In this, people are revealed not to be up for God’s position all of the time. This remains rugged work, and I look forward to 2013 when we can get on with it. For today, we are barely setting the table for those who are new to the issues and to the processes.”

This reminds me how I am not where I need to be in observing. If I slow down, I can let the whole picture come into focus and with more careful thought bring an accuracy to the subject. Historically, in the political arena, I have allowed a lot of influence from the media to form my understanding, when it just needs to be part of the pixels in the picture. It is awesome to be able to wear our spiritual 3D glasses to see what really is going on while the nation chooses between God’s position and their own. But moreover, it is extremely reassuring to know that nothing happens without God’s prior approval and that He is in control. “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.” (Psalm 147:4)
Let’s hope and pray that the Father in heaven gives us what we need and not what we want or deserve. Our nation needs Jesus! No wonder the Lord has raised you up as an evangelist – I thank God for His work in you – it may help save the nation!!
