Trent TV: Obama’s Holyfield?

Today’s Trent TV installment poses a question on the eve of the second debate between President Obama and challenger Mitt Romney.  Since their first debate 12 days ago, Romney has surged in national polls to take a slight lead in the Presidential race.  Questions abound as to how Obama can stem the tide and stop the bleeding from his lackluster performance in their first go-round in Denver.

“Sports analogies often provide the best comparisons across the entire fabric of life and its various events,” Trent Ling contends. “And Presidential debates tend to be a delicate business because almost everything is blown way out of proportion.  It will be very interesting to see if Romney stays on the offensive, and whether Obama can muster an unscripted comeback.  We should be able to tell very early on whether or not deja vu is in the works.  That will quickly answer the question posed today.”

Trent TV: Obama’s Holyfield? — 5 Comments

  1. Turns out that Obama did go for trick plays in order to endure Romney. The Prez employed an upgraded energy and confidence no longer tethered to the truth or any sense of class or decorum. Sadly, many felt this gave him an edge in the scoring of debates 2 & 3. Unbelievable. These were Tyson-esque bites, but apparently nobody noticed.

  2. I think one of the biggest knock outs for me was when the sharp and truth telling statement of “…I’m (Romney) not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for.” It’s not only that what is being said is factually true but it’s how when confronted with a real accusation, Obama doesn’t rhetort intelligebly on it and consistently turns into other thoughts. I was glad that my girls were able to see how in all of the debates sometimes the accusations would fly off the cuff and it was difficult for each side to really account in a settling matter what was what. It was a quintessential example of why putting trust in man is useless and putting trust in God is key. (Psalm 146:3-4 “Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;on that very day their plans come to nothing.”) The truth when said is always a knock out – hope more light is shed on everyone’s shadiness and may it lead people to Solomon’s Ecclesiastes conclusion that the only thing that matters is serving God.

  3. Hey I remember the story of Mike Tyson bit Holyfield ear… but I didn’t understand the motive behind it. This is interesting analogy or analogies! We learn something everyday from your site. Thanks for sharing the never ending supply of your knowledge with us 🙂

  4. There is no doubt that the stakes are incredibly high for Obama. I believe that Obama is going to desperately try to go against Romney’s character and integrity in this debate. In Paul Ryan’s words, they are in a “lot of duress to make up for lost ground”. Unfortunately the media will focus on Obama’s “back against wall” aggressiveness instead of the common sense, real ideas, and proposals Romney will bring to the table.
