Podcast: You Need a Friend

Bali, Indonesia 2006: Isaiah and Arianna have so much in common in their sprawling lives, having grown up together. Certainly, in many respects, the only person they know who’s seen and done what they’ve seen and done is the other one. Already, their friendship amazes as it belies the in-fighting of most siblings.

From Trent Ling:

As great as God is, more is needed.  As wonderful as the Bible is, more is still needed.  As compelling and alluring as is Jesus on the Cross, there are times where still more is required.  In almost all cases, God directs each disciple of Jesus to the inevitable realization that we all need a friend.  We need someone to whom we can speak freely and openly, and talk out and work out our deal with God.  Once tasted, other fruitful friendships of great depth can follow the pattern and build a full fellowship only offered in the Truth.  No matter how we are supplied from heaven, we all need a friend.  Don’t try to fool yourself into living without one.

  1. I truly am encouraged today by this message, because it is truth that I can find in the Bible. I listened to it this morning, Disciples do need other disciples to get open with so that they can be healed as scriptures says. Brothers and Sisters in Christ need to be there for one another , the scripture is true A friend loves at ALL TIMES.. Thank you for sharing what you have taught in this message, it is greatly missed.

  2. I remember when this was preached twelve years ago. I remember it well actually. I recall the single brothers and sisters saying that they were going to make this happen. That same year the brothers moved in with one another, the sisters moved in with one another and it seemed like it was all coming together. Of course everyone’s heart was tested and varying verdicts were rendered. Interestingly enough, I remember nonchalantly telling Joan L after this message was preached that ‘we should be friends’ in accordance with this message. God must have been laughing. Needless to say that I ended up marrying my best friend Joan L and the rest is history.

Since this message was preached I have let this fall through the cracks to be honest and yet it’s still applicable this very day. I’ve been asking and hoping for a Latin brother since 99′ and God delivered Melvin to us this year. Melvin is a deeply convicted brother; he is good for me…
